Information for Professionals
What is Stillwaters?
Stillwaters is a community based, nonprofit organization that provides short-term, professional psychosocial and emotional support for persons with cancer and those who love them. Our services include one-on-one and family counseling, support groups, workshops, grief services and more. All are specifically offered to address concerns relevant to the cancer experience.
What is Stillwaters’ fee structure?
All Stillwaters services are free. We recognize the financial strain that cancer creates and are committed to providing support services at no cost.
Does my patient need to be in active treatment to receive services?
Stillwaters services are available for those affected by cancer at any stage of the illness, i.e.: newly diagnosed, actively receiving treatment, post-treatment, and bereavement. Stillwaters also offers services to family members, including children and the caregiving spouse (or partner).
What are the staff’s backgrounds?
All of our counselors have Master’s Degrees in Social Work or Professional Counseling, and are experienced in working with issues related to oncology, end-of-life, and bereavement. They understand how a chronic, life threatening illness impacts individuals and families. Our counselors are solution-focused, and routinely teach mind/body techniques to clients.
What is your service area?
We are available to meet with clients at a variety of locations in Southeast Wisconsin. We often meet at our center in downtown Waukesha, at hospitals throughout the area, in hospices and churches.
