For many individuals, a cancer diagnosis is an overwhelming experience. The effects of cancer extends itself beyond the patient. Friends, family members and co-workers have an array of emotions that surface when someone is diagnosed with cancer. People are forced to address critical issues such as managing medical appointments, dealing with treatment side effects and coping with feelings of loss of control and helplessness. Not all of us are equipped with the tools for this job. This understanding is the premise of Stillwaters Cancer Support Center.

In ways that we have only recently begun to better understand, the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance of the entire family is disturbed when one of its members is diagnosed with cancer. Research evidence has become increasingly clear that chances for recovery from cancer can be significantly improved if the person with cancer: 1) receives help in dealing with the intense feelings accompanying the illness experience; 2) effectively faces and resolves other major life problems in order to achieve a healthier emotional balance in life; 3) uses relaxation and imagery techniques that are supportive of healing: and 4) learns to be more closely in touch with spiritual resources.

Stillwaters Cancer Support Services, is a community of caring multidisciplinary professional counselors, staff, cancer care providers, volunteers and survivors who are dedicated to teaching, supporting and empowering others affected by cancer. A place where participants have access to both the support of the group and to individual sessions with trained therapists.

Stillwaters offers professionally facilitated groups for cancer patients, survivors, family members and friends. Stillwaters also offers short term individual and family counseling for cancer related issues, end of life issues and bereavement issues.

Stillwaters services are offered free of charge and without obligation.
