There is a growing awareness among
those who care for the bereaved that individual counseling,
support groups and one on one peer support are an appropriate
and effective way to help bereaved people heal. Because they
offer a safe place for people to do the work of mourning, these
services encourage people to reconcile their losses and go on to
find continued meaning in life and living.

Counseling
Stillwaters offers individual consultations with a trained
professional in the area of grief, bereavement and mourning. No
one can anticipate the emotional and spiritual upheaval a major
loss brings. Individual counseling can help by giving the
bereaved a safe place to express their feelings of grief while
learning some new skills to help cope with and reconcile the
loss and it's impact.
Mentor Match
One very important thing someone can do when going through
the grief process is find emotional support. Support can come
from many different sources; family and friends, support groups,
individual counseling, but one of the most natural sources is
talking with another. The Mentor Match program at Stillwaters
emphasizes the importance of peer support. The program provides
emotional support to those grieving the death of a loved one to
cancer. Volunteers who have experienced their own loss provide
support to the newly bereaved by telephone contacts or in-person
visits, sharing their own personal experiences with grief and
offering one on one emotional support.
